The Angel of Christian Charity? No, incorrect. Eros, Greek God of love? Also incorrect. A dollar for anyone who can tell me the name of the statue atop the Shaftesbury Monument Memorial Fountain in Piccadilly Circus, London.
This is an HDR experiment gone coolly awry. All the HDR tutorials say to use a tripod. I will shout from the highest mountaintops: I hate tripods.
This is a composite of three images. If you look really close you can see they don’t completely align. That can be blamed on a) no tripod; b) the pints the night before and my shaking hands; c) the biting cold.
All that said, still cool.

I like it! He looks like he’s got a glow behind him.
I know your answer, but not because I knew it, only because I widipedia’d it.

Anteros?

Yea, my guess is Anteros, the brother of Eros and the god of something like “returned love”, I think.
Nice pic. I’m no photographer, so all this “HDR” terminology is way over my head – I just think it looks cool.

LFC: A dollar for you after I consult with Greek scholars to confirm the correctness of your answer.

Wanda: Anteros is related to Antleros, the Greek God of Deer, Elk, Moose and Caribou.
Josh: HDR is High Dynamic Range. A HDR image is one made up of three or more images shot at various exposures. Over and under exposed images add more detail to the finished image. Sounds complicated, but it’s not.

And isn’t that the statue which was turned to face up Shaftesbury Avenue, in a thinly veiled dig at the homosexual Lord Shaftesbury?

Most cool, Stevo. I have to admit that I’m a fan of the tripod, but only if I don’t have to carry it. It never works out that way, though, so I rarely use mine.
I guess I’m too late for the dollar.

Great shot Stevo, HDR images sometimes have the most interesting effect when you think that they have gone wrong. Truth is that HDR is just the base technique, what you do with it your choice (although I love tripods!

This is a stunning picture. The fact that you’ve combined 3 images actually adds to the depth and gives it a strangely magical feel. I’ve been to Picadilly Circus so many times and never even stopped to notice this – I will now!
