The Bocca Tigris is the area near Humen, China, where the Pearl River dumps into the South China Sea. Three forts, build before the First Opium War, cover the strategic passage (They didn’t help). The forts are still there, as is this more modern building.
With most Chinese cities densely populated, why not take to the water?

Interesting. With urban populations the world over denser than they’ve ever been, I wonder if we’ll start seeing more water-based dwellings!
Looks a little scary to me, like it might not be strong enough to survive the next wave!

Looks like a cool place to live.

Julie: Kevin Costner – Waterworld. Need I say more?
Shawn / LFC: Very true.
Craig: What you don’t see is the Humen Pearl River Bridge towering over the neat little house. That would make this location less than ideal.

I can see why it wouldn’t help. It looks so delicate on its spindly legs. Like a house of cards you could just knock over.
Cool drawbridge, though.
Aside from the fact that I can’t swim or even float, I think I’d like to live in a stilted (much stronger stilts than shown here) dwelling above the water. It appeals to me, except maybe when there’s a tidal wave or something like that.

I love finding little places like these while I’m traveling. They’re such a nice, rustic change to the concrete jungles of Asia. Great photo BTW!

amuirin: Yes, the drawbridge is very cool. I’d buy this house for that alone.
Corina: It appeals to me too, except for the huge amount of river traffic. In another location…
Carrie: That is the joy of traveling, isn’t it?
Cool photograph, Stevo. The history only adds to its depth.
Pretty brave to stay out there. I love the water though.

I like the atmosphere lent by the gray, foggy day, too.
