morning shopping

Shopping in Shekou, Shenzhen

Shopping in Shekou, Shenzhen

The early bird doesn’t get the worm in Shekou, Shenzhen (China). Four women wander through a shopping arcade, the establishments not yet open.

Shekou is the expat area of Shenzhen, featuring international restaurants, souvenir shops, sidewalk artists, and rental rollerblades. Each weekend it’s a thriving area, filled with local residents (foreign and domestic), sightseers, and the curious.

As these women learned, don’t go to Shekou early. Shops open according to the owner’s whim.

Looks a little spooky. Like one of those vampire in the mall movies.

  4. Concerning vampires in the darkened mall: from the time I paid my first and last visit to the Mall of America in Minnesota, I’ve thought of it as a potential horror movie . . . an abandoned, crime-ridden, violent “consumer city” gone bad.

Shawn: If there were vampires in the mall I would go to the mall. That would be an attraction to me, there are none.

Beryl: I’d pay to see that movie. Maybe you should write the screenplay?

Nice picture….they look like design elements (integrated into the structure) rather than people walking within it. Almost like those doll cutouts that cliched crazy people in the old days would cut.

I find that everywhere in Wuhan, at least, shops opened and closed whenever the owner wanted them to.

Hair salons would close and reopen all the time.
