Sometimes I just don't feel like going through the motions. I agree with David, when Chinese people don't think you have any idea what they are saying can make the conversation much more interesting. Not only can you save yourself from those same questions that always turn up when a Chinese person discovers a mandarin speaking foreigner, but I also enjoy listening to what people have to say when they think I can't understand them.
