Things to do in Malaysia

Malaysia is a popular tourist destination for everyone who is interested in learning more about the country’s culture, while simultaneously seeking a relaxing holiday hotspot. Here are some of the things you can do while visiting

1. Reach new heights:

How would it feel to be on top of the world? If you’re not scared of heights, then you should definitely visit the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. These two towers are among the tallest buildings in the world, and a landmark of Malaysia. No visit to this country is complete without at least going up to the skybridge which connects these massive towers.

2. Immerse yourself in history:

History buffs around the world will definitely enjoy checking out the historic cities of some of Malaysia’s most tourist-friendly towns. Melaka’s historic city is known for its Malay, European, and Chinese influences (among others), which is also reflected in its unique cuisine. In addition to this, you can also get some last minute shopping done during the night market. Malacca is a World Heritage listed city.

3. Find the perfect island paradise:

There is more to Malaysia than the bustling city life and night markets. Vacationing on an island can be both relaxing and exciting. Penang is one of Malaysia’s most popular islands, and its capital, Georgetown, is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Chinese mansions, temples, boutiques, and cafes make Georgetown and Penang itself into an appealing destination for people of all ages.

4. Relax in a luxurious resort:

While some tourists prefer spending their holiday in a large town, others might want to get away from the noisy crowds by going to an idyllic resort. We really liked Redang and Perhentian Besar. If you’re an outdoors person, you can go to Borneo, relax in a luxury hotel and then hike through neighbouring tropical forest. High end hotels and resorts in Malaysia tend to me great value, although less so at the beach than in the cities.

5. Have some fun with the family:

If you’re travelling with children, there’s no need to worry that they’ll get bored. Take them to a theme park such as Sunway Lagoon. Located in Petaling Jaya, a former satellite town of Kuala Lumpur, Sunway Lagoon Theme park is easily accessible to everyone who is looking for a fun adventure. The theme park is made up of three different areas, which can be enjoyed by people of all ages: Waters of Africa, Wild Wild West, and World of Adventure. Some of the most popular attractions are Pirate’s Revenge (a rotating pirate ship that puts any average ship to shame) and The Niagra Falls Flume Ride (a log shaped ride which takes you down a very steep river).

6. Celebrate nature:

No trip to Malaysia is complete without marvelling at its natural wonders. If you’re travelling to Borneo, then you should consider visiting Kinabalu National Park. Whether you’re an expert climber aiming to conquer Mount Kinabalu, or you’re simply interested in tackling some of the simple walking trails such as Timpohon Trail, a trip to the once rumoured haunted jungle is bound to be an adventure.

7. Shop till you can’t stop:

Kuala Lumpur is known as one of the top shopping cities in the world. Therefore, it’s hard to miss out on all the
opportunities the Malaysian capital has to offer. You will be able to find sales and deals in every month of the year, which means that planning your holiday just became a lot easier. Some of the world’s biggest malls are located in the heart of the city, with the area between Bukit Bitang and Kuala Lumpur City Centre serving as a shopper’s haven.

Whether you’re travelling to Malaysia to immerse yourself in its culture, or you’re simply looking for some peace and quiet, you’re bound to find a place that suits you year round.
