alive and well

Chiang Mai, Thailand — After surviving an interesting 12-hour night train adventure, Mr. and Mrs. Stevo arrived in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. Mr. Stevo, without coffee or nicotine in his system, was able to negotiate with a tuk-tuk driver for a better rate. Without much of clue as to where to go, he managed to book a room at a small guest house, where he ate his weight in bacon and eggs.

Mr. and Mrs. Stevo will now travel north to the “Golden Triangle” hoping to arrange a profitable import/export business.

More to follow (and maybe photos!), when the guest house is able to get the wireless working.

off the radar

radar_22.gifWhen you read this I will have already have been in Thailand several days. Fooled ya, didn’t I? Post-dated posting is as cool as posted dated cheques used to be.

I don’t know when, or even if, I will post after this. I would like a computer-free holiday, (other than downloading the thousands of photos I’m taking from camera to computer, and checking for emergency emails)

Let me recommend some great bloggers who can be read in my stead.

amuirin at stop; wander has a great post on trash television and the perpetuation of the beauty myth.

My so-called stalker, Pamplemousse, always has something interesting to say. Please give her some tips on improving her nuisance skills.

My comrades Heathenly and Wanda both entertain. Wanda is related to a Canadian organized crime figure, what a small world.

Café Philos, brainchild of well-read Paul Sunstone, has a great list of must-read blog posts.

Carrie at My Several Worlds celebrates her birthday, plans a wedding in Mexico, and discusses the evils of high heels.

Revenge of the Castanets, a different name for AOS, has a great post on the anti-smoking crusade and individual rights.

red Ravine is always inspirational. QuoinMonkey and ybonesy have the coolest monikers on the net.

RT at Untwisted Vortex always has something good to say, be it a blog review or WordPress advice. He’s definitely someone good to know.

There’s no need to recommend one post by Average Jane, I am amazed and envious with each one I read. No one should have such talent with words.

While The Stevo rebels against all things feline, he does like to read the musings of The Little Fluffy Cat. Perhaps he will become feline-friendly? (Maybe, when we storm the Internet Bastille and remove any traces of LOL Cats)

Take a look at Mr. Random of Vanity Press. We were discussing Star Trek characters as legal counsel.

Enjoy the shutterbuggery© of Ron and Robin (that sounds like a Holiday Inn Lounge act. Fitting since Ron has gotten musical with his posts of late.) Craig Ferguson deserves a look. He’s experimenting with flash and getting some interesting results.

If I missed you, I apologize. My plane leaves shortly and I’m charging for the airport.

Adios, for now. Kiss me, miss me.

The radar image was lifted from a tutorial by WebDesign.org Lot of good stuff there.

ps: I just read Oprah is starting a television network. This is a Masonic conspiracy or another sign of the coming apocalypse.

shout out for the feet

big-feet.jpg

There has been a remarkable lack of feet in the blogosphere lately. Where are you Robin? Bibliomom zai nar? Where are feet photos we know and love?

To fill this obvious void I have posted this photo of Mrs. Stevo. No, the feet are not really that big. It’s the perspective, baby. Please ignore the God-awful cover on the sofa. Mrs. Stevo is a little like Annette Funicello.

another

I will admit to knowing nothing about flowers, except;

  1. They are plants;
  2. My wife likes to receive them.

I really like this new lens. Look at the detail! I’m in a sort of photographic heaven.

firsts

orange-flower.JPG

I’ve always wanted to try my hand at macro photography. But:

  1. I don’t like flowers or bugs;
  2. My gear prevented anything other than a mediocre image (yes, I know many of my photos fall into the mediocre category, I didn’t ask your opinion.)

After seeing the amazing work or Pogo and Bernie Kasper I thought I would have a go, and try out my new, kick-ass, image stabilized lens.

Thus, the above. This was shot in RAW format at 1/30. I will proclaim from the mountain tops that Canon image stabilizations is bomb diggity, to use Wanda’s term. There is no way you can capture something at such a slow speed, sans tripod, without it.
